Lets Try This Again Shall We

Hi. It's really hard to blog these days. Not that I don't have anything to say, more that I cannot find to motivation to type while I'm the computer. Now before I get to the heart of this post, I am currently listening to a new Limp Bizkit song, and I can't say I hate it. Weird.

Yankee's just scored. For some reason I've been watching much more baseball this year then I ever had in the past. But that's not very hard considering I almost never use to watch. I guess I've just needed something to watch since football seasons been over. Recently it's been very hard to watch anything on TV other then sports. I mean sure there's all the crap I watch with Al, but it's not like I have a choice in that. Discovery Channel and Comedy Central just haven't been doing it for me the past few months. Sure I still love Mythbusters and I'll watch when the new South Park season starts. I just have no desire to.

Holy crap. After watching Up in the Air again this weekend, I once again cannot get Vera Farmiga out of my head.

Guess Who's Back

Hey. Guess what? I'm gonna try to start blogging again. That's right, try. Who knows if it will actually work or if it will be another four months until my next post. I'll try harder to keep updating more, I promise. Yet, I feel that it is going to be hard to keep it up..... Hahaha. OK, with that lame joke out of the way lets start this post out with a recap of the past few months of my life. Here we go.

April happened, then I got a PlayStation 3 in May. In June I went to Disney with Al, Tim and Heidi....oops I mean Katie. Sorry, I have Home Improvement on the mind. Then in July Al got a job in Saratoga. Right now I'm watching Home Improvement with Al and drinking a Bass. Good times. Oh wait, I forgot the biggest thing that happened. Wait for it. Back to the Future was announced for Blu-Ray. It comes out on October 26th. I am totally taking the day off of work to sit around and watch it.

Have I ever mentioned my love of Tim Allen? It started with Home Improvement in the early 90's and continued with his portrayal of Buzz Lightyear and Santa Clause. I'm currently reading his first book. It's awesome. Want to know what's not awesome? The Santa Clause 2. First one was fantastic, second one sucked and the third one was bad but contained an awesome time travel scene that actually made it pretty interesting.

Speaking of Toy Story, did anyone see Toy Story 3 yet? It was so good. I mean Goo, it was good. (Yes I meant to type "Goo". It's something from me and old roommates that I am trying to keep alive.) Best movie I've seen this year. The ending was sad, epic, sweet and everything in between. I really would recommend it to anyone who likes good movies. Biggest disappointment of the year? Grown-Ups. Now, don't you go and get me wrong. I did like the movie. In fact I liked it a lot. The thing is I hold Adam Sandler movies to a very high standard. I realize that they are not always the best movies out there, but there's a little bit else involved. See, I grew up watching and loving Adam Sandler movies and for whatever reason I deep down always want the new ones to be as good as the ones from back in my youth. Chuck and Larry and Zohan were both excellent in my opinion, Funny People was ok. Grown-Ups was pretty good. I guess I just wanted more from it. Also, I'm surprised to say that I thought Kevin James was the best part of the movie. I hope he keeps making movies. Ever see the show King of Queens? Doug and Carrie are almost the prefect analogs for me and Allie. And I love it.

Next Up: I'm Thinking District 9

Hey there. This is going to be a really short one. I want to start blogging more and I've come to the conclusion that by trying to write much shorter posts I will be willing to update more often. Alright now, lets get down to business. First, the DSi still rocks major ass and I cannot wait to get some more games for it. Second, my lovely gf is in Disney for the Easter holiday. Second.5, with her being away I am going to try to catch up on a bunch of movies I have been wanting to watch. This movie marathon started last night, Thursday. I watched Son of Rambow and then Pleasantville. Son of Rambow was very good. I put off watching it due to thinking it would not be that great and needless to say my fear was for no reason. The film was funny, clever and actually a little bit touching. Highly recommended. Pleasantville I have seen before. But it had a neat story and I didn't know how long I could stay up. So I went with something I did not need to pay full attention to.

OK, so scratch that about this being a short post. I guess I got on a roll and still feel like typing more.

Today started with going to the super market. But that has nothing to do with anything. Other then the fact that I picked up some magazine about Mario. Yes, if you did not know already, I am in fact a 12 year old man. Anyways, after I got home and worked outside for a little bit, I watched Star Trek. Movie rocked. Hard. I really enjoyed it much more then I thought I would. Probably because I hated anything Star Trek while growing up. This new movie however, makes me want to go back and watch some classic Star Trek stuff. I probably won't, but here's for trying. Currently King Kong is on. It's on because I put it in my DVD player. Why would I do that? Simple. I wanted to watch the stuff with the dinosaur in it. The whole movie isn't that great, but boy were those dinosaur scenes pretty sweet.

VAN Is the Best I Could Come Up With

Hey. Wow. It sure has been a long time since I've blogged about anything. It's not that nothing has been going on, it's just that I have had no motivation to blog recently. The weird part is a couple things have happened recently that I probably should be talking about. But therein lies the problem. Should I talk about all of it in this blog and totally blow my load? Or should I split it up and write a couple postings using the material I have been saving up? I think if I had my way I would at this point say something like "I don't know what I should do. I guess I'll take a few days to think about it and then come back to you." Then try to trick you, the reader, into thinking that I was not gonna tell my new stories. Yet I would still end up tell the stories. So the trick would not work as you would have already seen that the blog has not come to an end yet and there would be more to read. So it seems like that solves it. Heregoes.

Last Sunday I bought a Nintendo DSi and then on Wednesday me and my old roommate brewed a new batch of beer.

Damn, I have nothing else to say. I wasted a week on just one sentence. Oh well, I guess I could elaborate or something.

The new beer is looking to be a much lighter beer then the past few that we have brewed. We used a much lighter malt then before. It should be a sort of light, crisp Pale Ale. Very hoppy of course. We think that our past brews have been hampered by not fermenting enough. So this new one will have a two week fermentation and will include a secondary fermentation. I wasn't involved in buying the ingredients this time, but when my roommate went he took a bottle of our last brew. The guy working there sampled it and have him the idea of the secondary fermentation. Oh, also, it's not just the two of us this time. One of his new roommates is joining for this batch. His name starts with an "A". That's gonna be hard to work with.

The DSi rocks. I can make flip book animations on it. That one little game is worth having the whole system. The Dr. Mario and other puzzle games are pretty great too. I think I'm gonna go play it now. OK, not really. I am actually gonna go install a hard wood floor now.

The Countdown Begins

Hi. What on earth is my problem. Every day once it gets past about 9 o'clock I start to fall asleep. I know, lame right. But that doesn't really matter right now. What actually matters is that today is March 19th. And you know what that means. It's only nine months and six days left till Christmas!!! Sweet right.

I just got done watching Alice in Wonderland with my gf. I haven't seen it in at least 15 years. The new movie spiked my interest and therefore I wanted to see the old one again before seeing the new version. It made me realize two things. First, Alice in Wonderland is an f'ed up movie. And second, I really hate VHS and am very glad for the advent of DVD and Blu-Ray. I mean the picture looked terrible and the sound quality left much to be desired. Lets not even get started on having to rewind. Seriously, who wants to press the rewind button after having finished a movie? I know I sure don't want to.

Oh Yeahhhh!!!!!

Hi. Well so much for blogging on a regular schedule. I guess I just haven't had much to talk about lately. So here are a couple things that may or may not interest you. I think I want to start a collection of PEZ dispensers. Why? I don't know really. I guess it's just because I like the candy and I like holiday themed PEZ. Therefore, at many holidays I tend to seek out a new dispenser. Recently I got a Santa Claus one and a duck one. The duck was for Easter. It wasn't just some random duck or anything weird like that.

I am starting to get a little bit bored by video games. I know right. Who saw that coming. Haha. But seriously, I just cannot get interested in playing them again. The other day I bought Mega Man 10 on the Wii. I've played it for like two hours since Saturday and it has yet to really hook me. It is a great game and I did beat it, but it was on easy mode. That hardly counts. I got into NBA Courtside 2002 a week or two ago and that was the only game I really got into in the past month or so. I mean, Sonic Mega Collection was alright and I did play alot of Mega Man Anniversary Collection. So it's not like I've stopped playing video games. It's just that there hasn't been anything that has hooked me as much as Fire Emblem or Excite Truck. Maybe I should get Need for Speed Undercover. I love racing games. You know what? I am going to go look up prices for it on Ebay and Amazon right now. Maybe some other time I will talk about my new found enthusiasm for movie soundtracks and the Kool-Aid Man.

Feel Better, Cat Brother

Hey. Couple things I would like to talk about tonight. First, isn't it crazy how you can not watch a movie for years and then still remember scenes from it. I'm watching The Lost World: Jurassic Park right now. Its probably been five years since I've watched it last. While I can't quote every line, there is a ton I still remember. Granted, I watched it a ton as a kid. I'm sure that plays a part somewhere. Also, did you know Vince Vaughn was in it? I did, but it's kinda weird now to watch him in it. When it first came out I had no idea who Vince Vaughn was. It was long before Wedding Crashers and I hadn't seen Swingers yet. I don't know, I guess it's just weird to watch him in an action movie and not a comedy. Plus he looks so young. Kinda weird.

For some sad news. My cat Fluffy seems a little sicker then normal tonight. He is 15 years old and has had diabetes for 8 or so years now. So he hasn't exactly been healthy for a while. Tonight was just a worse night then normal. He threw up all over my blanket. Then he cowered in fear when any of us tried to touch him afterwards. Poor kitty.

Well, it's probably been a long time coming, but it's now the best time to reveal something about myself. Those of you who have known me for a long time might be shocked so be prepared. I now like the Smashing Pumpkins.

I know, I know. After years of hating them and claiming they suck I now embrace the musical vision of Billy Corgan. It happened based on two songs. The band is now releasing a 44 song album, one song at a time. The first two songs were fantastic. Enough to make me change my opinion on the band as a whole. After listening to the newest addition to the album, my new opinion is confirmed. I guess it's now time for me to bend over and take the "I told you so"s that I now so blatantly deserve.

I Can't Get "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" Out Of My Head

Hi. Just a quick one tonight. I just wanted to let everyone know that the Dazed and Confused soundtrack rocks. It is a fantastic gateway to getting into many great classic rock bands. There Are Thirteen Land Before Time Movies. No Joke.

Hey, big news. Bruce Willis is freaking awesome. Yea it's true, he rocks. Hard. I bring this up because of Back to the Future. See, Bruce Willis has nothing to do with Back to the Future and yet it all ties together. You'll just have to read on to find out how.

When ever I hear talk about best movie trilogy the majority of the discussion goes to either the original Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings. Personally I really like the original Star Wars trilogy. It defined a large part of my childhood. The movies, toys, video games, books and I'm pretty sure there was more. In fact I liked Star Wars from elementary school up until around the start of college. Since then I have had very little interest in Star Wars. I guess I just out grew it. On the other hand, I never liked the Lord of the Rings. Ever. I've never made it through any of the movies in one straight shot and I probably never will. Just too boring to hold my interest I guess. So out of the two, the edge would have to go to Star Wars.

Now lets bring up some other movie trilogies. The Matrix, Jurassic Park, Austin Powers, Spiderman, The Godfather, The Mighty Ducks, Ocean's, Robocop, Evil Dead, Friday and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I'm not counting TMNT. The first three were live action and they count as the trilogy. And yes, I know that it continues the story from the others, but no. I've made my decision already. It doesn't count). Most of those trilogies have at least one good movie in them, and in some case two or all are great. Lets face it, Jurassic Park rocks. The thing is, none of those trilogies are good enough to be the best ever. Well, The Godfather probably does, but it never connected with me the way some of the others did.

So. Guess what my favorite two trilogies of all time are. That's right, it comes down to The Land Before Time 1-3 verses The Land Before Time 4-6. Who would have thought they would make so many of those movies. OK, seriously now the two are Back to the Future and Die Hard. (Hey look, Bruce Willis was in Die Hard. That's what I was talking about at first). We all know I love Back to the Future, so that gets number one. That's it. No more discussion for now. But don't worry, it won't be long before I bring up the debate of what is better Back to the Future 2 or 3. The first is obviously the best, but what will get second place. Stay tuned to a future blog post to find out.

The One With The List

Hi. I'm watching Frasier with my gf Allie right now. Beginning of season 8. It's really good and makes me want to talk about other things that I really like. Well I suppose the beer I've been drinking has had an effect too.

That brings us to the first thing. Beer. I love beer. Top of the list of beer in my book is Saranac. Tonight I have been enjoying the Trail Mix six-pack. Six different beers, all delicious. And that does not even include their seasonal and specialty beers. Its all good stuff. I collect empty beer bottles and display them. Currently I have over 30 different varieties of Saranac. Out of all that there is only one that I don't like. Its the Caramel Porter in case you were wondering. And to be fair, the more I have it, the more I like it.

Next lets talk about Kevin Smith. I love his movies, podcasts, blogs, twitter and even books. I tend to read or listen to just about everything he has a hand in. With all the ways he connects to his fans, I often feel like I know him. Today, I saw his newest movie, Cop Out. It was hilarious.

The more I type the more I realize it's hard to pay attention to Frasier. Rather then convince Allie to pause the show I think I'll cut this post short. Albeit, I would feel bad leaving you hanging as to what else I was going to talk about. Here is the rest of the list, in abbreviated form.

List of my favorite things. Counting down. Cause it's just better that way.

10. Tech N9ne
9. The Internet
8. Scrabble
7. TV on DVD
6. Chevelle / Breaking Benjamin
5. Nintendo
4. Tacos
3. Kevin Smith
2. Saranac
1. Allie

Hey, look at that. It's ten things. What are the odds. I guess I could go back and change all I said before to make it a top ten list. See that would make it look like I had a plan to begin with. But I didn't have a plan. I never do. Oh well. Where's my beer?

I Went Back and Changed This Post From One That Was Way Worse

Hey. OK, try to keep up cause I may be going all over the place in the next few sentences here. I have been thinking about it a lot lately, and I am once again sure that time travel is not possible. I mean think about it; if people in the future knew how to travel through time, wouldn't they have come to visit us already? Wouldn't they have already tried to go back and get rid of Hitler. Sure you could say that maybe they tried and it didn't work. Or you could bring up how maybe our past was actually changed from something way worse to the way it was as we know it, and the way we know the past as having gone down is not nearly as bad as the past that actually happened before the people in the future went back in time to fix the past that was actually way worse then the past that us in the current time know it as. (WooHoo Run-on sentence.) And I guess I would have to agree with you on that point. So I guess what I am getting at is that time travel is actually possible after all. See how easily I can change my own mind?

Half Cement, Half Brother

Hi. Back in my freshman year of college me and two of my friends went to I Love New York Pizza to get a couple slices. For some reason on the way there I told them that I have a half brother. This lead to the entire pizza trip being dedicated to them creating a story about me and my half brother. The story basically went like this as far as I can remember.

One day Vince was walking around the ACP campus when his half brother Dave showed up. For some reason, Dave decided to try and steal Vince's identity. He was walking around wearing the 8-Mile beanie and had on transition glasses. Vince did not like the idea of his half brother taking over his life. Try as he might, Vince could not get Dave to stop copying him. Weeks of frustration go by and Vince starts to go crazy with jealously. Everything good seems to happen to the impostor Vince, and the real Vince keeps getting pooed on. The real Vince then comes up with the greatest idea he has ever had. He and the impostor Vince will battle for the right to be called "Vince". The battle takes place on top of the tallest building that the ACP campus has to offer, the Notre Dame Dorms. An epic fight ensues. Both real and impostor Vince strike devastating blows, but one victor soon emerges. The fight ends with real Vince throwing impostor Vince off the roof and into a wet pile of cement. However, the real Vince is only able to enjoy his victory for a mere moment. When he looks down to see the aftermath, he is frozen from the terror of what he sees. Out of the cement emerges his half brother. At that point. Vince knows the rest of his life will revolve around fighting his new nemesis. Half Cement, Half Brother.

That is the origin story of Half Cement, Half Brother.

Alright, most of that story I made up just now. All I really remember from 5 years ago was the part where I fight Dave on top a building and he falls into cement. But I figure this version of the story has got to be at least a little similar to what was told back then. Oh well, you know how that goes, stories are bound to change after multiple years of retelling. At least now there is some version of it out there once again.

Ready to Strike

Hey. I feel bad that I have not been watching that much of the Olympics. I mean, they come on only once every 4 years. I should be excited about this stuff. And I kinda am, yet it's hard to bring myself to watch. Granted, I am watching right now and I just saw Lindsay Vaughn get a gold medal, but that's about it so far. Oh well, maybe I'll watch more as they continue.

So have you heard about Kevin Smith being TFTF(Too Fat Too Fly) and getting kicked off of a Southwest Air flight? Dudes big, but he's not that big. It's pretty crazy to me. I mean, if he can kicked off a flight, whats stopping people from kicking me off of a flight cause I'm too fat. Sure I haven't flown in about 6 years, but I will again. When I do, I don't want some smart-ass telling me to buy a second seat to fit all of my lard.

Maybe it's just because I don't have a PS3 yet, but I have been having a lot of fun going back and playing NES and Genesis games lately. I've mostly been playing old Mega Man and Sonic games the past few days. They're pretty sweet and I kinda wish I was playing one of them right now instead of this stupid speed skating trials BS that's on my TV right now.

That reminds me. Remember that Geico commercial? You know. The one with the kid, I think his name was Scottie, and a soap box racer car. And he's like talking about how fast he is. Then it ends with him saying something to the effect of "People are like `Where's Scottie?` I'm a million miles away, son. Ready to strike." I really liked that line.

Remember Media Play?

How goes it? Did you know that I use to work at Target? You probably did, but I just wanted to get that out before this next statement. I love Wal-Mart. Stuff is just so cheap there. I think later today I am gonna go to the Wal-Mart Super Center later today. You know, the one by where Circuit City was before they went out of business. Remember when they went out of business? Around the final three weeks of the store, I was going there to check out the clearance about 4 times a week. I think I must have bought about 15 CDs and DVDs for around thirty bucks. It was awesome. But the thing is, ever since Circuit City left Best Buy has had much less competition. Sure Best Buy and Wal-Mart compete, but its just not the same.

- OK, I am getting sick of typing the names of theses stores, so from now on I am going to abbreviate. Best Buy will be CC, Wal-Mart will be BB, and Circuit City will be WM. Or not, I think I'll leave it open to your own interpretation as to how I will be referring to stores. Confused yet? Probably. Oh Well. -

Without CC, BB has been having fewer sales it seems. They use to both have tons of DVDs, CDs, and Video Games on sale every week. Now, not so much. What BB needs is a new store to come in and take the place of the now defunct CC.

- This just in. The other day I heard that there is going to be a new store moving into the old CC building. And apparently, it comes from the west and is supposed to be much in the same vein of CC and BB.-

Wow, that was nice. I guess my wants are going to be fulfilled on this particular wish. Unless of course the information I heard was actually not true. Only time will tell. I am of course too lazy to fact check any of these rumors that I hear. It's just too time consuming.

(5 minutes goes by.)

Alright I just Bing-ed it. I caved and really wanted to know what the deal was. It seems Ultimate Electronics is going to move into the old CC building. It opens in May or June. I hope it's cool.

Congratulations Vince, You Now Look Like A Young Boy or: Ding Dong the Beard Is Dead

Hey. In case you cannot tell from the title of this post, I have shaven off my beard. Not trimmed it down as I normally do once or twice a month, but full on razored it off. It was mostly done to give it a re-boot. Sometimes after multiple trimmings, things just get uneven. By taking the whole thing off, I am able to regrow it and have it be as even as possible. So, this morning I decided to document the whole thing and have a little fun with it. Here are some pictures if I can figure out how to add them to this post.

Alright, first we have a picture of myself before this whole process began. Note the full beard that had been trimmed about two weeks ago. On the last trimming I took everything down a little except the mustache and the goatee.

Here we have the first cuts of the process. I took off everything below my jaw and a little bit on my cheeks. The effect is a Van Dyke with chops.

Next I eliminated the chops out of the picture, leaving only the Van Dyke.

This is an attempt at a Fu Manchu. Seeing as how my mustache does not connect to my goatee very well, it looks awful.

The final snapshot shows me with only a mustache.

Minutes after that last picture was taken, I completed the process by shaving off the mustache. I would have liked to keep just that, but I have seen 15 year olds pull it off better then me and I'll be damned if a 15 year old shows me up at a facial hair competition.

If I Had $1,000,000

Hi. I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve. That would be why I am going to tell you this. I have a history of taking off my shirt. Yea so Barenaked Ladies is one of my favorite bands and I just listened to "One Week" and I felt like typing some lyrics.

Here's an interesting fact. One of the singers for Barenaked Ladies was arrested for cocaine possession back in oh eight. The charges were eventually dropped, after he made good on the courts request to stay clean for like six months or something. But still. Cocaine! Barenaked Ladies! Never saw it coming. Anyways, since then he has left the band to pursue a solo carrier. That's where my problem comes in. Barenaked Ladies as a band still exists and plans to record new material. Now I realize that their other singer is still there, but it just doesn't feel the same. And I could never see myself listening to a Stephen Page solo record. Yet if they had stayed together as one band, I would totally be buying their next record.

I don't know. I guess their newer material hasn't been as good as the older stuff, but that's how it always goes. Bands just cannot continually put out fantastic material. Of course if I were to fully believe that then I would have to over look Metallica. Seriously, Death Magnetic rocks. Hard.

The Squirrel Story

Hey. Are you ready for this? I'm going to start out with a retelling of the squirrel story. The other day at work I was cutting between the buildings outside and there was this wall with a pipe on it. The pipe went straight up for most of the wall then cornered off and went up to the roof at a slight angle. Imagine an upside-down "L" with the horizontal being at a slight upward angle. Got it? OK. Alright, as I looked at the pipe, there was a squirrel running up it. In its mouth was a crumpled up piece of newspaper. As the squirrel ran up and over the angle, it slipped. After a quick struggle, the squirrel could not hold its grip and it fell off the pipe. The little creature plummeted towards the earth, but luckily caught itself mere inches under the pipe. With some confused body language, the critter looked around and then hopped back to the pipe. The journey was not meant to be easy however. The cold must have allowed some ice to form, because the little fella just could not get a grip on the pipe. The slipping then caused the piece of newspaper to fly out of the mouth of the brave animal. A sad story that has a sad ending. The tiny rodent then had to flee to the safety of the roof sans a new piece of paper to add to his shelter. The newspaper was left as just another bit of litter floating around the lawn. Perhaps the paper would have a happier ending. Maybe it would end up in a recycling plant. Even better, it could have ended up as a paper mache(sp?) hat for a smiling child. But alas, I would never know. I entered the building right after the squirrel was gone, and I did not see the fate of the crumpled newspaper.

I Told You I Was Freaky

Hey. Currently I am obsessed with a new Flight of the Conchords song, "I Told You I Was Freaky". I suggest everyone look it up and listen to it a soon as possible. Another current song is "Can't Stop Partying" by Weezer and featuring Lil Wayne. The whole song is pretty good, but Lil Wayne's verse is hilarious. It makes the rest of the song so much better.

On another topic, I got Endless Ocean for the Wii for $30 on Amazon. The game is out of print, so it's pretty hard to find. Normally it sells for $130 on Amazon. I love deals. By the way Frasier is on the TV right now and it's a great show. I think I'll go back to watching it for now. Maybe I'll update again in another week.

Another Thing That I Want

Sup. I'm addicted to eBay. I don't really buy much stuff on it, but I do look at lots of stuff and occasionally bid. The current goal is to get an original Game Boy. A 1989 era Game Boy, none of this Pocket nonsense. Plus I already have a Game Boy Pocket. I guess the point of the Game Boy is as a cheap alternative to getting a Nintendo DS. I'm sure that I will want a DS soon, but twentyish dollars now is much easier to swallow then over two-hundred.

/We now interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to bring you an urgent message from this blogs author. As I am watching this, I am writing The Biggest Loser. Wait, that didn't sound right. I'm not fixing it so try your best to understand. Anyways, I really do not like the red team this season. *!@# them. We now return to this regularly scheduled blog, already in progress./

My problem stems from it seeming that there are a lot of people who want Game Boys, and these other people have more money that they are willing to spend. If you are not in the market for a Game Boy then you can stop reading this post now. If you are looking to buy a Game Boy then read the next part with emphasis.

Screw you, people buying Game Boys. Let me get one of the cheap ones. Seriously, there are so many people trying to get them and if you all allow me to get a cheap one then that will be one less person fighting for the classic handheld.
I'm pretty sure that was a run-on sentence, but I don't care. It gets my point across in just as confused a manner as I would by saying it in person.
In conclusion, I want a Virtual Boy.

Throw Up the Horns

Hey. It has occurred to me that my music tastes have been changing quite a bit over the past couple years. Back in oh-seven I was hardcore into metal. Dethklok, DevilDriver, Lamb of God, Slayer, CKY, Five Finger Death Punch, In Flames, Opeth, Megadeth, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Nonpoint, Ozzy and the list goes on. I still listen to a few of these bands but not nearly as much. Recently I discovered something about myself that disturbed me quite a bit - I like pop music. I seriously like pop music. I'm talking Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Britney Spears and the like. Yeah, I know.

If the Vince of two years ago read that above, I would be afraid to see his reaction. I guess it would not be too bad, mostly just calling the current Vince all sorts of names. Probably stuff like *****, *****, ******, *******, *** and ************. Harsh stuff. Is it really that big of a deal that I listen to this music now? Probably not. I suppose that it's all just coming from age. The metal phase is now pretty much out of my life and I'm more into listening to stuff that's easier to digest. Now don't get me wrong, I still listen to a lot of hard rock bands. It's just that I incorporate the occasional "Tic Tok" or "Bad Romance".
Mock me all you like, I'm just being honest.

Virus Buster

Hi. It's too bad Conan is off of the Tonight Show. It's even worse that I only watched the show during its last week. He will be back on TV soon enough and I will finally be able to get back to not watching him. After watching his final show last night I watched something even better, my girlfriend kicking tail at Dr. Mario. We were playing the game with her roommate and boyfriend. While I am the best at the game, it was proven that my gf was second best. I am so proud of her.

Well after that paragraph of boring I guess I have nothing funny to say. But I'm sure you've already figured that out and written about it on my Facebook wall. Yes that was a shot at someone I work with. How do you like that big boy? Alright, time to go listen to some Ke$ha or something, maybe some episodes of Frasier.

Irony

How goes it? My recent problem is my virus protection program will not load. Fantastic. I'll deal with that tomorrow or over the weekend maybe. For now the best I can do is complain. This will probably continue for a few days until the computer magically fixes itself. That's usually how I deal with my computer being difficult. Ride it out for a few days and it all works out in the end. Unless of course it kills the computer. Funny story actually, my tablet died a couple weeks ago. Well it didn't actually die, it just got a virus and I don't feel like trying to fix it. Yeah, well I guess we'll see what happens won't we?

Alright I think I am gonna cut this one short. It's time to watch Flight of the Concords season two and if you can't tell I have been struggling to find something to write about tonight. I guess that is what happens when I try to force blogging onto myself.

Here They Come

Sup. Um, this is a little bit awkward, but could you hang on for just a minute? Thanks a lot, I'll be right back...

OK, sorry about that. I just finished a bag of popcorn and I had to go run and get a beer. Saranac Big Moose Ale in case you're wondering. It's a pretty good beer; pale ale with a little kick of citrus. Alrighty where was I? Oh that's right, we were about to discuss the Wii and how much better the graphics look with the proper cables. See the system comes with standard A/V cables and I just bought component cables. The difference is the first had three connectors and the second has five. As we all know five is better then three. With the component cables in, everything just looks better.

Speaking of better, I have been thinking about how to protect myself in the event of a zombie outbreak. I'm pretty sure that a shotgun will do the job. To be sure I will soon be purchasing a book that will guide me along the path to enlightenment in terms of zombie protection. Don't feel bad if you yourself are not too concerned about taking the necessary precautions, I will be more then willing to protect you and yours from the oncoming zombie heard. This is Vince, signing off.

How do you spell "Dilemma"?

Hey. I can't wait for Crank 3 to come out. The first two were great and another could only be better. Unless it's like Goldmember from the Austin Powers series. I really loved the first two but the third one really was lame. Although it did still have a good joke or two. Speaking of good jokes I'm watching Seinfeld and it's pretty hilarious. Four weeks in and I am a quarter the way through the 8th season. Here's to productivity.

So over the weekend me and my lady friend made some beer bread. Basically you pour some beer into pre-made bread mix and then cook it. It was pretty good but the process of making it brought on one little problem. OK, get ready for a pointless story that really doesn't go anywhere. The mix called for 12 ounces of beer. I had some Coors left over from New Years but I really did not want to use it in the bread. I figured that if I got a higher quality beer then the bread could only be of a higher quality as well. Fast forward to a couple hours later when we find ourselves at the Slingerlands Price Chopper. We go to that particular Price Chopper due to it overall higher quality then other area Price Choppers. Anyways, at the supermarket I ran into a little beer called Honkers Island Goose Ale. Oh wait I got that backwards, it's actually Goose Island Honker's Ale. Sorry about the confusion. This particular beer I first had at Beer and Wing Fest at the Times Union Center. This was the first time I have been able to find a six pack of it in stores.

So, we now find ourselves back at my lady friend's apartment. When it comes time to actually make the bread I run into a brick wall. It seems I really do not want to waste a Goose on the bread. After some back and forth I finally decide to use the Coors for the bread, meaning I shouldn't have bought the extra beer in the first place. Once again I have spent money that I really did not need to. One the plus side, I now have a few bottles of the Goose to drink, but at what price does that privilege come at?

D2 The Mighty Ducks Are Back

Hey. Tonight I went to a hockey game with a few cool people and it has inspired me to share a story with you. It was a few years back, probably 2007, and I found myself at a River Rats game. I was with my fraternity, which is Kappa Epsilon if you did not know. Well long story short I started a Quack. Yes, that's right a quack. For a reference if you have no idea what I mean, go watch The Mighty Ducks right now. Back? OK. Remember the part where they were quacking. Like it just started with one person and then the whole team started doing it and then the whole stadium started quacking. Well I was that one person who started the quack. It spread from me to my brothers to pretty much everyone else in the stands as far as I could tell. It was awesome and quite easily one of the best experiences of my life.

We're Heading North to the Lake

Hey. Want to know one thing that I really wish I could do but most likely will never get the chance to? I want to be a professional race car driver. For reals. Think about how sweet it would be to drive awesome cars really fast all day long. That's right, it would be really awesome.

Speaking of really awesome, I have to use this time to complain about something that will not be changed but at least I will be able to get this off my chest for once and for all. Why the helmet does Nintendo discontinue some of their first party Wii games? As I may have said earlier there are two Wii games that I would like to own but Nintendo does not manufacture them any more. Therefore the only way for me to get a new copy is to be lucky enough to find a store that still has some in stock. The chances of this are pretty small, but there is some hope. A Wal-Mart near me recently had in stock two games that are in much the same situation as the other two games I previously mentioned. So yes, there were at one point four rare games I wanted and I found two of them. Does this give me hope? Yes. Do I think I will find the other two games? No. Do I hate when people ask questions and then answer them right away for some reason? Absolutely.

Where was I? Oh yeah I was complaining about something that is merely meant to keep my mind preoccupied while I temporarily forget about other problems in my life. But before this gets too depressing, lets end with a random fact about myself. I love podcasts. SModcast is my favorite and Game Scoop holds strongly onto number two. So if you are ever in the mood for a good listen try either of the above. The first covers a wide variety of topics but is very vulgar, and the second is primarily about video games but also veers off to random topics quite frequently.

I guess I lied earlier because there is something else I would like to say. I have not read a magazine in quite a while and I am thinking about getting back into them. Maxim and Game Pro will be my trial two subscriptions. Yea.

Envious

Hey. Here's the thing, most beer does not actually age well in much the same way that a wine would. So beers have expiration dates and as expected their quality will decrease over time. So the two beers that I have been saving since before the holidays will not last for months as I would like them to. In case you're wondering there is a Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale and a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. I want to save them to drink on a nice warm summers day, but I feel that if I wait too long they will disappoint me with the diminished quality.

Really the whole point of that conversation was for me to be able to lead into this next sentence. Me and my buddy brewed some beer over the summer and I still have about twelve left. This is the third batch we've made and while it was not incredible, it was the best one yet. Now I'm sure there are two burning questions that are now swimming around in your head. "What kind of beer was it that you made and what would you guys call your brewery if you were to be successful in brewing beer and made a business out of it?" Well, I am gonna answer both of those questions for you very quickly because this blog post has already gone on far too long. It was an American Ale and the brewery would be called eNVy. Get it? No, of course you don't. And that's because you don't know my friends name. OK, I'll explain it. His name starts with "N" and my name starts with "V" (obviously).

I'm on TV

Hi. It's Sunday now and I am watching the Patriots most likely end their chances of going to the Super Bowl this year. Oh well, not that big a deal. Remember a few years ago when they lost to the Giants? That was a terrible night for me. My roommates and I had a Super Bowl party at our place and we got a ton of pizza and wings for eating purposes. I lost count but I ate at least 40 wings. For some reason after that my stomach hurt so much that I watched the final quarter keeled over on my bed from pain. The surprising part is I have eaten over 50 wings on a few occasions since then and have felt relatively fine.

So anyways, it's Sunday and I've had a busy weekend. I went to New York City on Friday with my girlfriend and her sister. We met with their friend and the four of us went to a taping of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. It was hilarious and I would love to do it again. I totally got on TV too. We were in the front row and at one point my face was on camera. The only problem is I am on the corner of the screen, so I am not seen on the full screen version. But I was on TV if you watched is on a wide screen television. I'll take it.

Also on Friday we went to Nintendo World. It was cool but kinda underwhelming. Still was fun though. I was hoping they would have a couple Wii games that have discontinued by Nintendo, but I had no luck. I guess I'll have to turn to eBay to actually get them now. On happier news, I saw Avatar and Leap Year on Saturday. Avatar rocked and Leap Year sucked. Who could have possible seen that coming? Alright the Ravens are ahead 33 to 14 so lets hope Brady can be Brady in the last ten and a half minutes, am I right.

Losing

Hey. Right now I am watching The Biggest Loser (here by referred to as BL, unless I forget) and eating a brownie. I don't feel bad though and here's why - it's a fat free brownie. Sure, I sprinkled some broken up Heath bars on top but whatever, I do what I want. Which reminds me, Coors original is good, but I like Coors Light better. Here's my problem with BL, I don't like it, but every time I get tricked into watching it I like it a little bit more. A few seasons ago the show went from something I dreaded watching each week to something I would talk my friends into watching with me and the girlfriend. The drama that tends to come with reality shows doesn't really help. It tends to be the most annoying part of the show. These people on the show should just get over themselves and like each other. Or not. It doesn't really matter.
That's all.

Back to My Future

How's it going? Here's a little story that I feel like telling. I'll warn you in advance, I just ate a bag of chipotle (I looked up how to spell it) microwave popcorn so I'm feeling a little randy. Way back when I was a little kid, McDonald's was having a promotion where they were selling movies for some reason. One of these movies was Adams Family. More importantly Back to the Future was also one of the featured movies. I got both of them and quite possible more that were available, but I can't remember for sure. So that was my first introduction to one of the best movies ever.

Don't worry the story doesn't end quite yet, there's a little bit of drama to be had. Needless so say I loved Back to the Future from the first time I saw it. The movie was hilarious, action packed and very clever. (Now, if you've only seen the film in its original theatrical release, you may be confused with this next part a little bit. Don't worry, it's all true). (Also - Spoiler Warning. If you want the end of the movie to be a surprise skip to the next paragraph). The movie ends on a cliff hanger with Doc Brown arriving from the future(!) to tell Marty there's something wrong with his kids. They take Jennifer and fly(!) into the future. The home video version then adds a "to be continued" that was not in the original release.

This ending did nothing but greatly increase my thirst for more Flux Capacitor action. The high achieved after viewing eventually came crashing down when it turned out McDonald's was not selling the sequels. No problem right? Just go to an actual video store, they'll have them. But they did not have them. In fact, my parents took me to many stores and we could not find either sequel anywhere. I was heart broken.

Now, I'll admit we never tried to rent the films (in fact I've never rented a movie in my life) but lots of searching gave no results. Years went by. At least it felt like years. In reality it was at least one year but probably not much more then two. Eventually we stumbled upon a store that came to the rescue. I think it was FYE but it was so long ago that I can't remember for sure. Well they didn't have them in stock, but they did order both of them for us and called when they were in stock. I was thrilled. I actually still have the moment of when I started watching the second movie etched in my brain. It was Christmas eve and my family watched Back to the Future II as our traditional night before Christmas movie.

I really cannot wait until the trilogy comes out on Blu-Ray.

The Complete Series

Whats up? Right now I'm watching Seinfeld on DVD. I got the complete series for Christmas and I've gotten about half way through season 4 already. Back in middle school and high school I watched the show on syndication and have probably actually seen every episode. Since college I pretty much stopped watching it though. Its pretty funny how after so many years a lot of the lines are still burned somewhere in my brain. That reminds me, since when is it spelled "a lot" and not "alot"? I feel like way back in school it was taught to not use it, but if you had to spell it "alot". Now, when I feel like it needs to be used, I can never remember how to spell it. Probably what happened was I learned it wrong and that wrong spelling has stuck with me over all these years. Did you know "very" was also a frowned upon word back in grade school? Anyways, The Contest is my favorite episode of Seinfeld and I just watched it a few minutes ago. It was very funny.

Fun Stuff Is Fun

Hey. I really like playing games. Both of the video and board variety. I especially like trivia games with the girlfriend. We played Scene it tonight and I won twice. Ha. I got lucky though, most of the questions I got were about random movies that I've watched over the years. In the second game, I got a trio of questions about Bruce Willis movies. This made me want to go back and watch all of his movies that I've never seen. It also helps that he's in Cop Out, the new Kevin Smith movie. I tend to really get into actors, or directors, and feel the need to see anything they've ever been involved in. Probably seems weird but I've been like it ever since I saw Friday and really liked Ice Cube. Well at least that as far back as I can remember. I suppose you could count Adam Sandler and James Bond movies, but that was back on VHS and hardly counts. Sure I eventually re-bought them, but that came well after the Ice Cube phase.
Speaking of Cop Out I really hope its good, I mean I'm sure its going to be but you never know. Kevin Smith has yet to disappoint me yet. Oops, two "yet"s in that sentence. Sounds weird when I read that back. Moving on. I'm currently watching Frasier on DVD with the girlfriend. We've gone through Scrubs, House, King of Queens, The Office, Friends and probably others too. More on them some other time. This will be the third time through Frasier as a series and the fourth time through the first season. This brings me back to my point, I wish there was a trivia game that would let you choose a few TV shows and only ask questions about those only. Like I could choose to play a game that only has questions about King of Queens and Friends. How sweet would that be?
Thank you for your call.

First

Hi. I'm Vince and this is my blog. I plan to write a bunch of random things about movies, music, video games, tv shows and I'll probably add a little bit of my life too for good measure. Who knows what it will end up as but lets give it a shot.

For now all I really have to say is Back to the Future is an awesome movie and I wish I was going to be watching that now instead of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Oh well, maybe next time.
